Want to learn about different types of hunting from across the United States? Well, looks like today you are in luck, and the focus is all on Oregon! The x optics team is taking a deep dive into some ground squirrel hunting. These types of animals can also be known as “sage rats.” In Oregon, ground squirrel hunting is pretty popular. This season happens from February until July, and then the ground squirrels go back into their burrows. Typically, ground squirrel hunting happens in eastern Oregon.
Do You Need a License?
If you are wanting to partake in this hunting event, all you need is the appropriate hunting license. You don’t need any tags or permits! Most people pursue these animals with rifles.
Why do People Hunt Ground Squirrels?
You may be wondering why people like to hunt ground squirrels. The main reason is because they can actually cause a lot of damage to land. Ground squirrels eat the parts of plants that are seen above ground, and then cover the rest of the crop with mounds of dirt. This destroys crops and farmland. Any burrows in irrigation fields can cause water loss. These are a couple of the many reasons people will take an x optics product (or just simply a rifle) and hunt these animals. What X Optics Could I Use?
Since many hunters pursue sage rats with rifles, a good product to use would be one of our
rangefinders, which are coming early this summer. The x optics rangefinder allows you to see how far away your target is, giving you a better idea on where to aim when using your rifle. Of course, when using an x optics rangefinder for an event such as ground squirrel hunting, it would be to range how far away their burrows are if you are going after that instead of a ground squirrel that is running. If you are wanting to go after a moving ground squirrel, our
scope would work much better.
Ground Squirrel Hunting is definitely an interesting endeavor. If you’d like to learn more, check out this website
